One of the highlights of our trip to Norway was our stay on the island of Haholmen. Located on an exclusive island just off the northern end of the infamous Atlantic Road, the serenity and tranquility is all one could wish for on a relaxing holiday, enjoying the calmness of the water with the scenic mountains in the background.

Our stay began with a cheerful captain who welcomed us onto his speedboat (pictured above), ferrying us across from the mainland where we parked our car, to the island of Haholmen where we would be spending the next 24 hours. We were mesmerised by the views from the beginning, admiring the jaw-dropping scenery right in front of our eyes.

Wildlife is abundant here. With seagulls and other birds flying around occasionally, their squawks will remind you that you're in the middle of nature. The water is so clear that you can see the fish swimming just underneath you - this really is a far cry from the pollution we're all accustomed to in big cities.

Facilities are adequate but not plentiful on this island. Afterall, its appeal is for you to relax and enjoy the tranquility it offers. There's a restaurant which is open for dinner, as well as a bar where you can enjoy a drink and chat with fellow like-minded travellers. Check their official website for the latest opening times.

Table reservations for dinner is recommended prior to the stay. The three-course menu was definitely one of the best we've savoured on our trip. Fresh ingredients were used, and they were also accommodating to any food allergies and intolerances.

For starters, we were served pan-fried scallops, which were delicious. These were seared to perfection, and was flavourful. For the main, we had beef, which was very tender, and complemented with the root vegetable and mashed potato. Dessert was a lemon custard, which had a perfect balance between the zestiness of the lemon and the sweetness of the biscuit. There was absolutely nothing to fault about the entire meal. Wine pairing was also available for all courses.
