Overview

The estate spans over 1400 acres, encompassing beautifully kept gardens, woodlands and moorlands. The mansions, which was originally a hunting lodge in the late medieval period, was transformed in the 16th century, giving it a unique architectural character.

Lyme Park is famous for being a filming location, notably for the BBC's adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, where the lake and grounds were featured.

Top Tips

A single entry to the property can be quite pricey, especially if going as a whole family. Consider purchasing a National Trust membership, which gives you unlimited access to all of their managed properties for a whole year!

The House

The house is the centrepiece of the estate. Exemplifying both the Elizabethan and Baroque architectural styles, you'll step back in time as soon as you enter.

The house boasts richly decorated rooms, featuring intricate decorations, ornate ceiling and an impressive art collection.

Interestingly, the house is the largest in Cheshire, measuring 58m by 40m around the courtyard. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England, as a Grade I listed building.

The parkland was originally designed for hunting, and is now home to a herd of red and fallow deer, which roam freely across the estate.

There are many paths where you can walk and explore, enjoying scenic views of lush green fields, serene lakes and even the skyline of Manchester on a clear sunny day.

The gardens is also just as spectacular, which includes the Italian Garden, Dutch Garden and The Orangery. These all offer a peacful retreat for your visit to Lyme Park.
