Located in the Songjiang district of Shanghai, Guangfulin (广富林)is a significant archaeological site and cultural heritage destination that dates back over 5,000 years.

Known as the "Root of Shanghai," it offers a window into the ancient culture through its well-preserved relics, including pottery, tools, and architectural remains unearthed from the site.

Today, the park beautifully integrates historical preservation with modern design, featuring iconic submerged glass structures resembling traditional Chinese buildings, serene waterways, and lush gardens.

If you don't have a Chinese-verified Wechat account, head to the ticket office first and purchase entrance tickets to all the attractions you plan to visit. QR codes to purchase tickets at each paid attraction's entrance may only accept those who have verified accounts.

How to get here

Take metro line 9 to Songjiang University Town, then take a taxi in the taxi rank outside, or ideally book a taxi on your preferred app (Didi/Baidu etc)

Chen Zilong Memorial Hall 陈子龙纪念馆

This memorial hall is dedicated to the life and legacy of Chen Zilong, a prominent Ming Dynasty poet, scholar, and loyalist. It showcases Chen's contributions to Chinese literature, his unwavering patriotism, and his resistance during the fall of the Ming Dynasty.

Through historical artifacts, calligraphy, and multimedia exhibits, visitors gain insight into his profound influence on classical Chinese poetry and his dedication to national integrity.

Take a walk around the hall to appreciate the surrounding scenery, with the stilted walkway over water, where you can take a break and view the lake right beside you.

Although English translation here is scarce, you will be able to tell from the abundance of Chinese poetry and literature around this walkway, that Chen Zilong is well known and loved in Chinese culture.

Cultural Exhibition Hall 文化展示馆

As the centerpiece of the park, it celebrates the rich history and diverse cultural heritage of the region. This modern yet elegantly designed facility houses exhibits that span over 5,000 years, offering a comprehensive journey through the Guangfulin culture and its influence on Shanghai's development.

The hall features ancient artifact and interactive displays that bring to life the area's archaeological discoveries and historical narratives.
