Victoria Peak
The highest point on Hong Kong Island, offering panoramic views of the city's skyline
HONG KONG
Kevin
Commonly referred to as "The Peak", it is one of Hong Kong's most iconic destinations for locals and tourists alike.
Rising 552 metres above sea level, it is the highest point on Hong Kong Island, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the bustling skyscrapers below.
It is here where you can really appreciate the true scale of how Hong Kong has the largest number of skyscrapers in the world, vastly more than the runner-up of New York City.
This is a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists, providing a unique perspective of the city's skyline.
See the end of this blog for how to get to Victoria Peak - either by the Peak Tram, bus or hike!

Once you've arrived at the Peak, make sure to head to the Lion's Pavilion, for an initial glimpse of the view below you. This is one of the best places for photos with the iconic background!
Afterwards, opt for an hour-long walk along the Peak Circle Walk, firstly by heading North to Lugard Road Lookout, where you can capture the view from another angle.
If you're there during the day, it is advisable to complete the loop along Lugard Road and Harlech Road to get back to the Peak, for a view of the more idyllic southern part of the Island as well.
The whole trail is (mostly) pedestrianised, and takes just under an hour to complete the walk.
Finally, enjoy the facilities at the Peak itself, where there's also an observation deck (which we don't really recommend as you have to pay, but you don't get that much of a better view than what you would have already seen).
Moreover, there are a handful of restaurants, cafes and shops, which you can enjoy whilst you're up there.
How to get here
Peak Tram
One of the most iconic ways of travelling all the way to the Peak is by the historic Peak Tram, which has been carrying passengers since 1888. Departs regularly from the Garden Road station in Central, near Hong Kong Park.
Bus
Buses run regularly from both the Exchange Square bus terminus near Central Station, as well as at Admiralty Station. Takes longer than the Peak Tram, but often has shorter queues, and there is also an express bus route operating as well.
Hike
There's also a free option for outdoor enthusiasts. Many tourists choose to hike up if they want to, either starting from the Zoological and Botanical Gardens at Robinson Road, or from the Hong Kong University campus.
Top Tip!
Either arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds, or get there just before sunset, to enjoy both the daytime and evening views, where you can then see all the skyscrapers light up in the dark.
